Liber Abaci also introduced to the West a mathematical sequence now known as the Fibonacci sequence. Available in the West until Leonardo of Lisa (whom later historians dubbed 'Fibonacci') learned it from North African traders and described it in his book Liber abaci (The Book of Calculating), which first appeared in 1202. Liber Abaci introduced practical uses for the Arabic numerals 0 through 9 to Western Europe. The sequence was known to Indian mathematicians as early as the sixth century. The series begins with 0 and 1. The Fibonacci sequence is named after Leonardo of Pisa, who was known as Fibonacci. A collection of revered mathematical works will soon be put to auction in New York, including significant pieces of the Liber Abaci or Book of Calculation by Fibonacci. Fibonacci is best known to the modern world for: The spreading of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system in Europe, primarily through the publication in the early 13th century of his Book of Calculation, the Liber Abaci. It goes back to the mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci and chapter 12 of his book "Liber Abaci" written in 1202. Wikipedia explains that in 1202, mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, known as Fibonacci, published Liber Abaci which laid out the sequence. Fibonacci subsequently travelled broadly, where he learnt from mathematicians of different cultures. Fibonacci is perhaps best known for a simple series of numbers, introduced in Liber abaci and later named the Fibonacci numbers in his honour. Here's a working paper on the topic: Fibonacci and the Financial Revolution William N. In his book Liber Abaci published in 1202, Leonardo of Pisa, who was known as Fibonacci, considered the problem of how many pairs of rabbits would be produced in a year, starting with just a single pair. In Highschool we studied about Fibonacci Series until it haunted us in our dreams but I never knew that the origin of these numbers is ..
